Well, you could ditch the car and say it was eaten by wolves, but I don't think the insurance company would buy it. They'd want to see said wolves, no doubt, and take a statement from them.

My old roommate had someone steal her truck and set it on fire. But you'd have to get uber-insurance, first ...

My super-rich boss has a junkie son who once volunteered to steal and set my car on fire when I was complaining once about money. He said normally he charged people $1000, but for me he'd do it for free. The fact that he had a normal rate bothers me.

Don't feel bad about being the movie stereotype. I am single, female, and live alone with my two cats. At any given time, my digital camera has at least ten cat pictures on it waiting to be uploaded.

Heh. I'm a different movie stereotype. I'm the single 20-something girl who lives alone and looks like a librarian, until I become Catwoman. I just have yet to nail down the Catwoman part. In a porn twist, I might be a second grade teacher that turns into a hardcore dominatrix. Pretty much the same thing, both require black latex and contact lenses. I share your car problems. Mine aren't currently as dire as yours, but I've been there, done that, and am currently trying to decide whether to sell mine before it shits out, or wait until it dies and then cry because I'm stranded somewhere. New car payments are ridiculous, and full-coverage insurance is either more ridiculous. It makes me want to move to a real city and take the damn bus. Good luck, though. This "driving a newer car" thing works out for most people, I'm sure it will for you as well.

I'm white and mid-40s and I'll trade you my husband for your cat any day. I think you need to ask A to look around locally for you. Surely, being a car nut, he could find you a decent car in town with little time/trouble and car dealers/mechanics DO take advantage of women.

I like the idea of asking A to look around for you. Just make sure that whatever car you get, it has okay mileage.

I'm with Belle. Its a good idea to take someone with you. If you find something in Pa again and its close to pittsburgh, let me know! me and T will go look at it for you! He knows everything about cars.
