When I lived in Indianapolis, I lived in an upscale area... Appropriately named Castleton. I lived in a six-bedroom house in an exclusive subdivision, and when I got my phone service, I was inundated by fucking calls. Not only that, but we had lots and lots of door-to-door salespeople. The most amusing one was a magazine subscription person who claimed to be putting himself through college. "I can see from your home that you have achieved personal wealth, so I'm sure you can understand that I am trying to do the same." HA! In reality, the house was rented out to seven people (one in each bedroom, one in the basement), none of whom had two dimes to rub together. A few months later, I moved to an apartment, and the door to door guys stopped, but the telemarketers never did. And heh. I once worked as a telemarketer for a wacky religious organization. That was super-fun. And now that I realize I'm rambling in your comments, I'll stop.

This should help. Go online and register your number. It has cut down significantly on the number of calls we get. You can also put your cell phone on the registry. I almost never have my phone on, but I figure it's just a matter of time before they start calling that as well. Hope this helps. https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx

Fortunately - Indiana has a no-call list that is tougher than the national no-call list so we get NO telemarketing calls. Do go register that number as well!

If you still have that machine, why are you answering the 'phone? Seriously, I never answer until I hear who is on the line. Tell your mom and others you care about that you'll be screening calls, so, they'll holler-up once the machine picks up. After a few weeks, the telemarketing whores give up.

I used to just say, "Que? QUE? No speaka da eeengleeesh," but now that only gets you transferred to a Spanish-speaking telemarketer. So now I say, "Do you know that you're calling my office?" See, that is a BIG no-no legally. They'll take your name off, pronto. Of course, there was this one woman who really did call me at my office, and when I told her so, she said, "Well, this is the number we have on record for you." I said, "Yes, and it's my office. It is inappropriate to call me here." "But this is the number we have on record for you." "Right. AND IT IS INAPPRO--" "But THIS is the number we have for you." "If you call me here again I will contact my lawyer." Then she hung up. Grrr.

When they call, you should put the phone by the TV and pop in a porno tape. Turn the volume up reeeeeally loud, and then just walk away.

damn telemarketers! I hate them too. They like calling my house particularly at six o'clock when they know my mom's home. It's very very annoying.

The poor telemarketers have picked a bad time to do what they do for a living. With our current events as intense as they are, folks' nerves are tighter than they've been since forever. We're stressed over continuously rising prices of gas, utility services, health care, and other basic survival elements, and I doubt I'm only speaking for myself to say that the last thing I want after a long day of worrying, is a solicitation on my telephone, interupting dinner. The unassuming telemarketer is hoping and praying that they won't catch an irate customer, and that they can simply scroll through their sales pitch to completion, for the alluded comission of nearly five bucks promised by their supervisor. It sucks, because I used to be one, and realized that sitting behind a desk with a phone that will automatically dial god-knows-who, and I'VE gotta be the one who's at the receiving end of the [customer's] initial indignation and annoyance, risking being cursed out, threatened, and hung up on-----for barely more than minimum wage. I am now among those who do the hanging up. Sorry for them, but that ---t's annoying!
